LugRadio Live 2006 Schedule Pamphlet

I’m off to LUGRadio Live 2006 next month. This a venue organised by the LUGRadio guys – Jono Bacon, Stuart Langridge, Ade Bradshaw, and Matthew Revell (and a crack ninja LUGRadio team). There’s going to be a great line up of speakers including such leading lights as Mark Shuttleworth (head of Canonical, SABDFL of the Ubuntu Linux project, and spaceman), Danny O’Brien from Need To Know and latterly the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and that all-round nice guy Ted Haeger from Novell.

To make it easier to figure out where to be and what to see I created a handy-dandy print-out-and-keep pamphlet showing what’s on in which room and when. It’s a bit basic – being only version 0.5, but as the official schedule changes and I feel the need to update it, I will. It’s for my own personal benefit (I have a memory like a sieve so need an aide such as thus), but if you want it, feel free to grab yourself a copy of the pdf. Ideas on improving it welcome.

Note: This is NOT the final version, and it’s not official, if they move stuff about and you miss it, don’t blame me :)

Oh, and yes, I did use free and open source software to make it.

Edit 12th July 2006: Updated to version 0.5

Cisco VPN client under Ubuntu 6.06 (LTS) Linux

One of my customers has a VPN which I’d like to access. They provided me with a copy of the Cisco VPN client for Linux, and a “pcf” configuration file for the client. Here’s what i had to do to get the Cisco VPN client working in Linux – and it does work just fine.

Google Earth for linux is here!

Pointless scrolling around the world can be ours too now!

My house

Huzzah! Head over to the download page to get it.

I also made this natty googlezoom video in AVI format: http://bishop.popey.com/googlezoom/googlezoom.avi and OGG format: http://bishop.popey.com/googlezoom/googlezoom.ogg they’re jerky because I set the frame rate low, it doesn’t look like that in real life, it’s perfectly smooth.

Big snogs for drupal

My site runs on drupal and I like it, oh yes I do.

I just switched on “friendly URLs” which means that my blog is now accessible with the natty URL http://popey.com/alan which is much better than http://popey.com/?q=blog/1 which is what I used previously. Lovely. It’s a simple change, but effective.

Go drupal!

Of course the old URL still works, which is double plus good!

I really should just lie, it would be easier

Every night when I get in from work (in London) Sophie asks me “What colour train did you go on Daddy?”. Pretty much every day the answer is “blue”. Okay they have red stripes and some yellow bits around the doors, but they’re definately predominantly blue in colour.

Maybe I’ll tell her one day that it’s pink. She knows no different having never been on a train.
