I just discovered that the login and logout sounds in the next version of Ubuntu were composed by a fellow Hampshire Linux User Group member, Pete Savage.
They’re a bit lovely. Well done Pete, hope it makes it to the final release!
If you’re not running Ubuntu 6.10 – Edgy Eft release (which is currently still in development) then you can get the login and logout sounds and have a listen yourself.
Edit: These have now been updated. new login and new logout

They are really nice definitely something I’d consider putting on my desktop even if they didn’t make it. Doubt they’ll make it though, the best stuff for my tastes never do
wow they fit in perfectly on 7.10 feisty fawn and my super slow computer… the sound finishes just as my desktop picture comes up
