Ubuntu Edgy Startup Sounds

I just discovered that the login and logout sounds in the next version of Ubuntu were composed by a fellow Hampshire Linux User Group member, Pete Savage. They're a bit lovely. Well done Pete, hope it makes it to the final release! If you're not running Ubuntu 6.10 - Edgy Eft release (which is currently still in development) then you can get the login and logout sounds and have a listen yourself.

popey version 2.5

The latest point-release of popey is now available. 9 months and one day in the making, released today.. Welcome to this world Sam Michael Pope, he was born on 6th September 2006 at 13:32 BST.
A right bruiser, weighing in at an eye-watering 9lb 13.5oz (that's 4.47Kg for metric fans), both he and mother are fit, well and healthy, if a little tired. Time for a beer I think.

Addictive Google Image Labeler Game or More Ways to Waste Time Online

Stumbled upon this great little "game" at Google. You play against someone else online of Googles choosing - you don't select who you play against. You get shown a picture and have a time limit in which to type words or tags to describe the image. If you and the other person type the same tag (you can type loads until you match) then you get shown the next picture and your score is increased. That's it. Oh and you can either play as a guest or set a name. Here's the url. http://images.google.com/imagelabeler/ Of course google are evil yadda yadda. The reason for this game is allegedly so that Google can better categorise the pictures in their search engine. That way when you search for pictures of a tree you get pictures of trees and not something else you weren't expecting.

Things we have done to bring on childbirth

As you may or may not know, Clare is pregnant with our second child. It's due on the 5th September, but Clare's getting a little impatient. Here's what we've tried to bring it on..
  • Go for a brisk walk
  • Eat a curry
  • Drink pineapple juice
Suggestions welcome.
