Ubuntu was already grown up. You seem to be forgetting about the Ubuntu porn desktops. These are actually still available in the “ubuntu-calendar” packages.
Regardless of the phallic nature of the splash it’s certainly a step back aesthetically from the previous splashes. I’m hoping this gets some love before the final release.
