Copycat Nonsense

  • Microsoft sends experts into Apple stores to educate staff about Free Software.
  • The Free Software Foundation sends experts into computer stores to educate customers about Windows Vista.

At least I think I have that right.

A “costly push to change consumers’ perception of Windows”? Heh, perhaps Canonical should hire some professionals to bolster users’ views of Ubuntu. Frankly, the power, stability, flexibility, freedom, sense of ownership and sheer fun is wearing a bit thin and IMO is going to require marketing professionals to keep us interested. I mean, we might start forgetting the benefits and develop a desire to return to expensive, restricted “permit-ware”.

All this marketing drive by MS is doing is demonstrating that Windows has no “pull”. People have to be *pushed*, they have to be cajoled, brow-beaten, hectored and pressured into purchasing it. Windows doesn’t sell itself on its own merits. Why would that be I wonder? Just why is selling commodity software such as an operating system, file-manager, thumbnail viewer, firewall, solutions to self-engendered problems, a bunch of light-weight accessories, etc. require professional marketing and advertisers to shift? I just don’t understand it….
