igloolad - you need to get your apps vdpau enabled/aware (eg mplayer). Once you do that HD material only consumes ~3% CPU.

i have the same spec machine, i only have 1gb of ram in, do you think this would be the problem i am having with mkv playback i think 720p very choppy, if i upgraded ram do you think this will solve it. i am running 9.10 karmic with 185 graphics drivers. everything i try playing in boxee, totem or media player classic they are all the same. or is there something i am missing.

I don't have a harmony remote I'm afraid so can't test. I've been very happy with the Ortek remotes. They work perfectly out of the box.

Have you been able to get it to work with a Harmony remote? I can't seem to get the Harmony to activate the IR sensor despite having programmed it as an Ortek.

Ooooh. Seen this? http://linuxcentre.net/getiplayer/get_iplayer-pvr-manager
Seems to work very nicely. Should be trivial to Ubuntuize too if it really needed to be (I just have it running in the background from my user account).

So a couple of remaining things:
- had to disable ACPI login-on-resume to avoid having to enter pw on resume from suspend, and I haven't tried Hibernate yet
- no wake-on-USB, which is a shame. Wake-on-LAN/wifi seems to work though.
- screen dimensions keep jumping around for me and I end up with overscan. I looked at the xorg.conf you pointed me at on irc but that's not a 1080p config, which I'd prefer.
- Boxee doesn't seem to detect video stuff properly. I'm sure that's their problem, but it's a shame, as otherwise Boxee is gorgeous.
