Nifty device with a very, very low price point. Interestingly, searching the big G for " Viglen MPC-L" yields a 2 place position for your colleague Tony Whitmore's review of the device @ http://tonywhitmore.co.uk/blog/2008/08/18/viglen-mpc-l-well-worth-79/
Thanks for the heads up.

I have a Viglen MPC-L - well two in fact. One is my firewall running Ubuntu, the other is a general purpose device that I can ssh to and it does local backups too.

Thanks Alan for the well put together post. I can think of more than a few uses for this.
Any clue as to what your 8W server hardware is? Mine is a http://www.fit-pc.com/web/fit-pc2/other-products/ fit-pc slim @ 5W but am always interested to see what others have come up with.

There were supposed to be TABs after the inv and ser in that. Shouldn't have used diamond braces though I guess!

I tend to work on the basis of typing inv, so not a major hassle. Services looks interesting though - ser ;) - from the code it uses invoke-rc.d and adds a few extra twiddly bits - a wrapper round a wrapper!
