I just wanted to thank you, and let you know that this worked pretty well for me with my Treo 700p and Ubuntu Hardy. The main deviation I had to take from your guide was because I'm using the Treo's 3G internet (EVDO) connection rather than wifi for syncing, and my home computer is behind a router. So, I adapted some steps from this guide, which provided directions to configure a few extra hotsync settings on the palm for connecting through the WAN, but perhaps more importantly let me know which ports I needed to forward on my router to my desktop (14237/udp and 14238/tcp).
