Kevin, thanks for the info on best prices for graphics and mobo. I was given the higer price when I called too. I bought my XPS March 2005, so it's out of warrantee. A few days ago I got a thin vertical green line of pixel on the left side of the screen, but didn't worry about it. Now this morning it won't boot up at all. When I hit the power button, I get 3 or 4 green leds lighting up for about 10 secs. then all goes dark. Any idea if this is just the graphics card or if the motherboard is gone too? I took it apart and found a lot of dust and hair in the heat exchangers next to the cooling fans, so things probably got a little warm. I assume Dell has heat sensors to shut things down before they cook though.
Anybody have any advice? I called Dell "out of warrantee" support, and they weren't very encouraging. The guy told me I was probably better off just get a new laptop.
