My xps gen2 started with the same problems (blocks on screen, system freezes) in Aug07. Bought the system in June05 and it had worked perfectly up until then. Dell fixed it with a new graphics card and then a new motherboard too. Lasted 4 months then died again on Xmas day - lovely timing.
Trying to get Dell out to fix it again is proving difficult - ok its a bad time of year but a next working day on site warranty should be just that. They are due on Wed 2nd, I reported the problem on Thurs 27th - thats not good enough in my eyes. Wasted all Fri 28th waiting for the engineer - Dell didnt contact me to tell me he wasnt comming - very professional.
I await to see what the new set of parts will do. Starting to get the feeling that Dell dont really care about their users with the level of after sales care service they are providing. Think they know the system is generally crap and just wait for the 3 year warranty to expire as most people wont want to spend good money after bad. I'm trying to extend my warranty at the moment but not surprisingly havent had a call back from the dell warranty dept!
