The day Dell announced I ordered one of their laptops, and today (May 31) it arrived.
I popped open the box to see what's included. The only Ubuntu-specific thing included was the CD. I half-expected to see the 'DELL' logo on the blue-shirted guy. ;-)
Really, the only difference between this and a self-installed Ubuntu is the EULA.
Whoa, I noticed some gummy junk on this otherwise clean box. That couldn't have been a Windows sticker, could it? (hehe)
The usual setup screens...
Then, after creating a user, the login screen:
After logging in, it notifies you that the laptop is using some (shudder!) proprietary drivers. Just click close, and we're in business.
I was a bit (pleasantly) surprised to find no evidence of any 3rd party software added in, other than the drivers. I'm sure once people get word of how cool this is and flood Dell with orders, the 3rd parties will make an appearance.
I think I went from cutting open the box to logging in within about 8 minutes (including all the photo taking!) Nice work Dell and Canonical!
Now, were'd I put that wireless network password...
